Best Vacuum Carpet Cleaners that Will Make Your Home Sparkling Clean!

Cleaning sucks, to be honest. It’s time consuming, physically and sometimes even mentally draining. It is miracle that a carpet cleaner product has been invented. Carpet cleaners in the UK are a must-have in the household if you don’t want to go crazy worrying about dust, grime or worse, your pet’s stay at your place. Now, when we are talking about the very best carpet cleaner in the UK, we are talking about specific metrics such as cleaning capacity, durability, pricing, how fast it cleans, and the like. Included also is whether the carpet cleaning machine is something new or a carpet cleaner that is old fashioned but one of  the best – something like Henry, one of the best carpet cleaners ever invented. By the way, we did not add Henry to our carpet cleaner list because Henry is a well-known carpet cleaner and we wanted to review new machines from this year. Relevance is all about timing. : )

Carpet cleaning is serious business. Because dirt and grime should never be a temporary thing in the household. This is why we take it earnestly to choose the best carpet cleaners in the list and forgo just any carpet cleaner that is cheap.

We must admit and we want to give you a heads up as well, that a carpet cleaner equipment will not be your regular purchase. Carpet cleaner cost will range from less than a hundred to the most expensive in this list at £599. That is because the value of carpet cleaners is not in the amount of dirt, grime, fur and whatnot it brushes and vacuums but in the aftermath of what could happen when these “unwanted” stuff stay in your home.

So, our advice, as always, be meticulous when buying a carpet cleaner. We hope you find this list a good resource for your decision making.

Another important metric we deemed important to include is whether or not the carpet cleaner can deal with pets. This is a big one! Some of the best carpet cleaners can handle pets, dog poo, fur and other little things that turn your carpet into a disaster. So, you can be sure that all the carpet cleaners we reviewed here are also carpet cleaner for pets’ messes.

Get ready, the carpet cleaner and Vacuum machines are here!

1. Bissell ProHeat 2X Lift-Off Pet

Bissell ProHeat 2x Life-Off

Bissell is famous for offering a carpet cleaner product.. It wouldn’t come as a surprise if it has more than one offer in our list. They’re an authority when it comes to carpet cleaning and with a good number of reasons. For sure you will agree with us that Bissell’s has established itself as a carpet cleaner solution.

Notable Features

  • 2 in 1 machine. It’s both a cleaner and shampooer and a spot and upholstery cleaner. It cleans upright for large rooms.
  • Antibacterial cleaning
  • 22 ft cord length
  • 3-year limited warranty
  • Includes a 3” tool, spraying crevice tool
  • Includes and 8 oz shampoo formula and antibacterial formula
  • Portable
  • ProHeat 2X brushroll

Cleaning Capacity

Bissel ProHeat 2X Lift-Off Pet does what it promises to do, especially when you have pets. It is extremely good at being a wet carpet cleaner. The machine takes off grime, fur, smell, dust, moulds and did we mention smell? (yes!)

Well, admit it. The only way you find out your carpet needs cleaning is when you’re sneezing your head off because of the molds and dust floating around or when you’re starting to think that you smell like wet dog. So, we were very particular about the smell when we started with the test. We were sceptical at first because smell is just so hard to get rid off. But we were quite impressed with how things turned out. First of all, it smelled really nice. The free solution that came with it was a good deodorizer. But other than that, there were a lot of hair (and not just pet fur!), blackish water, small bits of food (probably from chips!) and who knows what critters there are!

It must have been hard work for the Bissel ProHeat because it was nasty in the tank. To be fair, we tried it for another run just so we were sure the carpet was really clean. We weren’t disappointed.

After the carpet in the living room, we went about the stairs and couch to see if it was as easy to use. The weight is normal but you could say it is lightweight compared to the Hoover’s in this list, but with just a little bit of difference. It has its carpet cleaner spray, so it was helpful when scrubbing nooks.

Amazon UK doesn’t have it but if you don’t mind shipping it from the US the product price is at $264.21.

Pros & Cons

No matter how good a product, nothing is perfect. And we’ve had a gripe or two over products. The Bissell ProHeat is no different.

What we like about the Bissell ProHeat is that how exceptional it cleaned the carpet so it’s a strong choice for a carpet cleaner at home The evidence was there for us to see. In addition, the carpet we used it on was of an ecru color so the difference was very clear. It wasn’t fading and there was no evidence of being worn out. It probably has something to do with the tanks maintaining temperature throughout the cleaning process. With heating, it either shrinks fabric or discolours over time.

Weight was not an issue as well unlike a carpet cleaner to rent out. We felt that it was normal for a carpet cleaner of that calibre. Normal weight but not too heavy. You will experience elbow grease for some time after going through the nooks, but like we said, it was to be expected.

Another feature we liked was the brushroll being replaceable. We reckon it would be one of the parts that will see wear and tear but we’re happy to find out that you can order it separately in case it bogs down. Hopefully, not too soon.

What we didn’t like about it was it took a bit of time assembling it. We could have wanted it to come assembled but that would be impractical we suppose. Also, while it was good at large areas, because of its weight and size, it was difficult to navigate around curves and crannies.

Another gripe is that it’s not available with Amazon UK. It is available on Ebay UK though.

Overall Rating

Overall, we are extremely satisfied with the Bissell ProHeat 2X Life-Off Pet. Functionality-wise, it did a great job. Price was also a value-for-money type of purchase. Anybody with a pet will fall in love with this. We couldn’t stress enough that it is a strong choice for a carpet cleaner to buy for your home use.

2. Hoover Smartwash+ Automatic Carpet Cleaner

Hoovers Smartwash

Hoover is a strong competitor of Bissell and also a carpet cleaner company. They have a wider array of products than Bissell, but is an authority on carpet cleaning just the same. Hoover Smartwash Automatic Carpet Cleaner is a carpet cleaner to buy and you’ll find out why.

Notable Features

  • Automatic cleaning technology. It uses a motion-sensor to detect where you’re going to enable the appropriate action.
  • Auto Mix mixes the solution for optimal washing
  • Dual Tank system
  • FlexForce™ PowerBrushes gently remove deep dirt, debris and pet messes
  • 2-in-1 antimicrobial pet tool
  • 5-year warranty

Cleaning Capacity

The Hoover Smartwash+ Automatic Carpet Cleaner deserves a standing ovation if it were appropriate. The decision to try it out on a neglected carpet was the best test for this machine. First, because as always, we were sceptical from such a lightweight cleaners. Second, because there were few buttons to at least customise our cleaning strategy. Much to our surprise, this lightweight cleaner more than deserved to be in this list.

For one, it did an exceptional job at cleaning a carpet that has never seen a washer all its life.

Shipping from the US it costs $171.76.

Pros & Cons

The Hoover’s Smartwash+ Automatic cleans exceptionally well coming from such a lightweight machine. The amount of grime was a bucketful and that is an understatement.

While cleaning, you know the suction is working. You will feel a grabbing pressure as if the machine is clawing at the fabric. This is probably why there is a bucketful of brackish water.

In addition, the carpet was dry when we were done. But the best part was having to do it in such a short time. Other appliances for sure would take a while especially so that the carpet was in dire need of not just vacuuming but exhaustive washing. The reason for this is its motion sensor detector, where it washes when you move forward and rinses when going backward. It’s ingenious!

For tight spaces, the nozzle was really convenient and made it easier to clean areas that can’t be reached by the vacuum.

Pros & Cons

What sucks about cleaning is that it takes too much time. But with this, it only took us half the time to do an exhaustive task. In addition, its rinse and dry function is impressive, drying the carpet in no time with its HeatForce feature.

The Hoover’s SmartWash+ Automatic Carpet Cleaner is all about simplicity and making things easy for anyone using it. Aside from cleaning fast, it also save the user time in trying to figure out how to mix the solution with its Auto Mix.

Lastly, the 5-year warranty is a sweet deal. Others only offer 3 years.

The only thing we wanted improved is the water tank. It seemed loose in ours.

Overall Rating

Other than the loose water tank, the Hoover’s SmartWash+ Automatic Carpet Cleaner has all the best features, even more than Bissell’s. But what we would watch out for is durability. Indeed, this appliance looks like a regular vacuum cleaner but it should not be used as you would a vacuum. It will most likely break from it.

With impressive suction cleaning power, anticipative technology, lightweight features, not to mention price, this one’s a keeper.

3. BISSELL Pet Stain Eraser 2003T Cordless Portable Carpet Cleaner Green

Bissell Pet Stain Eraser

Eraser fits the bill of being the best among its kind. As usual, Bissell never fails to disappoint and anticipates preferences of the market. Let’s take a look at its power.

Notable Features

  • Portable, cordless design
  • Stain Eraser functionality
  • 15-minute run time
  • Lithium ion battery that retains its charge even when not in use.

Cleaning Capacity

The Bissell Pet Stain Eraser is as the name implies, a stain eraser. It is especially built for this function. While the rest of the products in this list has a capability to clean a wide area, this portable appliance is literally, spot on—on stains, that is.

What enables this is its Spray, Scrub and Suction feature. It sprays a solution containing Oxy, scrubs the stained area and when the fabric and stain has been softened by the scrubbing, sucks the stain off the material. We tried this on the couch that has sweat and spill stains and swear by it. The Oxy Power Shot (also from Bissell) is also a product that is focused on removing stains. Couple this with a technology that takes the bother away from you and you have a miracle! Goodbye to our unsightly and embarrassing couch stains that we had to “decorate” it with a runner. Our couch has been given a new chance at life.

The Bissell Pet Stain Eraser costs £75.05 with free delivery in UK.

Pros & Cons

Stains are inevitable. This is precisely why we think getting the Bissell Pet Stain Eraser is invaluable. Because stains will never leave the house, it would be a good idea to always be prepared. The best impression that we have had so far with this appliance is that it is sturdy. The material seems to show so. Besides, having this for unexpected instances is enough for us. We’re happy to know that we don’t have to stress too much about the stain in the couch all the time. It takes the stress away and helps us enjoy the couch more, as we should. Hey, you can use it as a carpet cleaner for cars or a carpet cleaner for dog urine, so you don’t have to clean the entire rug for spots. So, more uses for it.

However, can you imagine paying that much for such a small thing (not that it’s really small)? But thinking about it, it’s an anticipatory tool, for those bad days.

Overall Rating

We always believe in being prepared for anything, especially stains. It’s good value especially if stays sturdy for a long time. Overall, we’d include this as something of a necessity therefore a carpet cleaner best buy. If you feel like doing a bit of weekly cleaning, then this will be the best companion. However, not for spring cleaning.

4. Rug Doctor Mighty Pro X3

Rug Doctor

You must have heard of Rug Doctor, the company that rents out their carpet cleaners. We’ve include them here both for the purpose of looking at renting it out or buying it. For sure, the Rug Doctor Mighty Pro X3 is not to be compared with the others in this list because it is the only industrial grade appliance. However, if you care for carpet cleaner for rent, then this certainly is the one you’re looking at to rent for home use. Let’s take a look at why.

Notable Features

  • X3 machine uses the three-stage cleaning system.
  • Vibrating 2-way brush type
  • 8 litres for Recovery tank, 11.4 litres for solution tank
  • Free Rug Doctor Cleaning Kit worth £70.

Cleaning Capacity

The Rug Doctor is known for its carpet cleaner rentals but renting one every time will eventually be costly. Buying an industrial grade type for your home, especially if you have a large area will be worth it. Meant for heavy duty cleaning, you shouldn’t be surprised that it does its job.

The X3 cleaning system works every time but the remarkable part is that it “agitates” or “aggravates” every fibre to get it ready for suction. This process is similar to the others, but none have said that it cleans individual carpet fibres. This might be the unique difference from the rest of the products in this list.

Moreover, it uses a lot of carpet cleaner fluid to work on different fibre problems. There is a stain remover, urine stain remover, carpet detergent, high foot traffic cleaner, Oxy cleaner and the like. It somehow aids in letting you choose and focus on what you want to do. In our case, we had to use it all. The result is a clean and soft carpet after. Some would leave the fabric a bit stiff, but this machine did not and was the softest among all tests.

However, it did not fully remove the odour like how the others did. Surprisingly because for such a heavy equipment, we would have thought it would be the perfect machine.

If you want to buy your own Rug Doctor X3, it would cost you a hefty £599 at the Rug Doctor site. A carpet cleaner for hire would include costs for carpet cleaner solutions, how long will you rent out the machine for and delivery preference. A 48-hour rental will cost you £28.99 and if you want it to come with the Hand Tool, pay extra £2.99. The solutions will cost you from £9.99 for a litre to £19.99. The solutions you choose will depend on what you want to clean. Lastly, standard delivery and collection will cost you £15 and the next day delivery is at £25. Delivery excludes Northern Ireland.

The best thing about Rug Doctor is that you can rent it. It gives you a choice whether to purchase or not. If you’re not ready to purchase, the Rug Doctor is for you. Cleaning capacity isn’t a problem. It will no doubt do the work. They’ve had the experience to be called the home cleaners. So, cleaning will be no problem.

This machine is especially perfect for any business establishment. It is industry-grade so it won’t bog down when it does some heavy cleaning. If you’re worried about durability, the fact that it is industry-grade should comfort you knowing that it is built for hard core scrubbing.

Moreover, if it is a large house, then this can fit into your household. But if it is any regular-sized house, this might not be the most appropriate for you because it is bulky and heavy. If it is for the home, stick with the Hoover’s or Bissell’s.

Overall Rating

If we had businesses that have physical stores, then the Rug Doctor is an investment. However, for a home use, you are better off buying the others in the list. On the other hand, for a carpet cleaner rental, this should be a good choice. Also, Rug Doctor always pops up for choices of carpet cleaners near me.

But price-wise, this is just too expensive for home use. Plus, it is just too bulky and heavy for easy use. It is almost twice the weight of the Bissell and Hoover’s.

5. Hoover Max Extract 60 Pressure Pro Carpet Deep Cleaner

Hoover Deep Cleaner

The second Hoover in our list. This is definitely a better choice than the ones usually rented out. It is a totally different personality than the Hoover SmartWash, so you will just have to choose which one you think will do what you want it to do. Mind you, it’s going to be a tough decision. Both have its strengths and weaknesses as well. But it would all depend on preference. Let’s take a look at what the Hoover Max Extract 60 Pressure Pro Carpet Deep Cleaner can do for our carpet.

Notable Features

  • SpinScrub® Brush Technology- This is a patented 360° counter-rotating, removable brushes that gently washes and scrubs sealed wood, vinyl, tile and grout from all angles
  • DualV® Nozzle – Cleans surfaces quickly and evenly
  • Pressurized Edge-to-Edge Cleaning -High-pressure water lifts stubborn stains with a consistent spray
  • Auto Conversion Tools – Allows quick change from floor to above-the-floor hose

Cleaning Capacity

When it comes to cleaning, it does its job really well. We went literal and inspected the carpet in some parts folding it to expose the inner fabric. It’s a wonder that it did clean up to the deepest parts. Moreover, the fabric was soft instead of stringy or stiff. Some cleaners right through aggravate the fibre because that is what it is supposed to do. But with the Max Extract, it was a different outcome. For sure we would want our carpets to somehow retain its original “form”, although impossible, we wanted to at least prolong its stay with us.In addition, most carpets’ colours fade when they have not been cleaned for too long, all the more when they are shampooed. Brushes also are the culprit when it comes to extreme wear and tear. It seems impossible to expect your carpet to come out “unscathed” after some scrubbing. The Max Extract though is a gentle machine on the carpet.

The Max Extract costs $155.29 in but other resellers in the UK sell it starting from £292.72 to £321 delivery costs not included.

Pros & Cons

It’s a great machine, no doubt when it comes to cleaning. Aside from cleaning a wide area, its nozzle is impressive. The suction is strong for a small tool, making it easy to suck any dirt and grime. It is probably the pressurised Edge-to-Edge Cleaning.

Also, drying is quicker owing to the Heat Activated Drying. This is just like a blow dryer but for carpets and any fabric that needs cleaning.

When you get an appliance as heavy as this you’d definitely want to maximise its life and get the value for your money. Unfortunately, the water tanks leak. We would have wanted the design on this compared to the Hoover SmartWash but this leaks, so we might have to go back to that.

Overall Rating

If this didn’t leak, we would have wanted the SmartWash as our overall choice. It might be an isolated case, but this is just one that you need to watch out for. Cleaning capacity is great especially the Edge-to-Edge Cleaning nozzle, because problems usually are with nooks and crevices. But this machine did so well.

Give this a go if you think it is a machine that is worth a second chance.
